Day 6: iPod

Welcome back to our second week and sixth day of objects. Today’s object is an iPod, a portable media player designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The first version was released on October 23, 2001. Only the iPod Touch remains in production, as music technology is such a fast-moving industry.

In our collection we have created a display showing the development of music technology. You can see the shelf display below and read about each item here.

You could have a go at home at creating your own display of music technology at home, and then sending us a photograph to info@irisproject.org.uk

As well as being a display of the development of the technology used, it is also a display that represents the story of music itself. In our collection pictured above, there is a Joan Baez vinyl from the 60s, and a U2 CD from the 80s, showing singers and bands who were current at the time. The display also gives information about people’s lives and communities. So it is a multi-purpose museum display!

We look forward to seeing your displays and seeing the music you have found. Do send a few lines with the story behind any of the music you have found if you would like to.
